The Journey

Doncaster Karate Club was founded back in 1970 and run Tony Storey Sensei and Ernie Prince Sensei. The club was a member of the UKKF which later became the United Kingdom Karate Do WadoKai. The UKKW was led by Tatsuo Suzuki Sensei and his team of Japanese sensei .

Right Place – Right Time

The club founders, for various reason moved on leaving the clubs highest grades as Andrew Genery and sister Suzanne, who were both young children and father Ken in the driving seat. Suzuki Sensei asked John Moreton sensei from Hull to help out with learning and developing the club. John stayed supporting the club until Andrew Sensei achieved 3rd Dan from Suzuki Sensei on 1982. John Moreton Sensei has stayed in contact and visited for seminars on numerous occasions.

The political nature of karate brought many splits within camp. One such split led to a group of clubs coming together to form the British WadoRyu Karate Union in 1998. The instructors voted Andrew Genery sensei as chief instructor assisted by sister Suzanne.

The group followed the teaching of Suzuki Sensei with additions as taught by Shiomitsu sensei and other Japanese sensei. The group became very successful on the national and international competition circuits.

The group name changed to Kishin during Covid. Ki meaning spirit and shin meaning mind.

During Covid Andrew Genery Sensei hosted training via Zoom which led to former students Steve and Pamela Rawson asking to join . The Rawsons had moved around during Steve’s military years and continued to train under Sugasowa sensei and became senior grades within Shikukai International. Andrew sensei was invited to join Shikukai Zoom training which has led to a strong bond between the 2 groups .
